Reuben Post Halleck

Reuben Post Halleck (1859–1936) was an American educator and textbook author. A graduate of Yale, he spent his career in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was for many years principal of the Louisville Male High School. His History of English Literature and History of American Literature, clear surveys for secondary schools equipped with summaries, suggested readings and questions, were adopted widely across the country and went through several revised editions, among them Halleck's New English Literature. He also wrote on psychology, education and American history. His textbooks shaped the teaching of literature in American high schools for a generation.
