Raymond S. Spears (1876–1950) was an American writer of outdoor, frontier and river fiction. Born in New York State, he traveled widely by boat and on foot, including long journeys down the Mississippi and through the backwoods, and drew on those experiences in stories about trappers, rivermen, hunters and animals. He contributed hundreds of stories and articles to magazines such as Adventure, Field and Stream and The Saturday Evening Post, and wrote novels and guides to camping and wilderness travel. His work shows close knowledge of nature and of the people who lived on its edges.
