Ralph Delahaye Paine (1871–1925) was an American journalist and author. Raised in Florida and educated at Yale, he became a newspaper correspondent, reporting on filibustering expeditions to Cuba, the Spanish-American War and the Boxer Rebellion in China. He then turned to books: popular histories of the sea such as The Ships and Sailors of Old Salem and The Book of Buried Treasure, a long series of college and sea stories for boys, and adult novels. During the First World War he reported on the Allied navies. His writing is brisk and well researched, with a reporter's eye for a story.
