R. L. Hobson

Robert Lockhart Hobson (1872–1941) was an English museum curator and an authority on Chinese and other ceramics. He joined the British Museum in 1897 and rose to become keeper of the Department of Oriental Antiquities and Ethnography. His Chinese Pottery and Porcelain (1915), in two volumes, became a landmark account of the subject in English, and he went on to write on Ming and later wares and to catalog the great private collection of George Eumorfopoulos. He also wrote on English pottery and porcelain. His work helped turn the study of Chinese ceramics from a collectors' pursuit into a field of scholarship.
