Percy Neville Ure (1879–1950) was an English classical scholar and archaeologist, professor of classics at the University of Reading from 1911 to 1946. Educated at Cambridge, he excavated the Boeotian cemetery of Rhitsona in Greece with his wife Annie Ure, publishing its pottery in a series of monographs that became fundamental to the chronology of Greek vases, and founded the Ure Museum at Reading. The Origin of Tyranny (1922) advanced his thesis that the tyrants of archaic Greece were men enriched by the new coinage and trade; he followed it with The Greek Renaissance (1921) and Justinian and His Age (1951), published after his death.
