P. Coffey

Peter Coffey (1876–1943) was an Irish Catholic priest and philosopher. Trained at Maynooth and at Louvain, where he took his doctorate under the future Cardinal Mercier, he taught logic and metaphysics at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, for most of his life and wrote the English-language textbooks of the scholastic revival: The Science of Logic, Ontology, or the Theory of Being, and Epistemology. He argued that the medieval questions were still the live ones under modern names, and he also wrote and lectured on social and economic questions from the standpoint of Catholic social teaching.
