Oscar Chrisman

Oscar Chrisman was an American psychologist and educator who taught paidology and psychology at Ohio University. A student of the child-study movement, he coined the word paidology for the scientific study of the child, introduced it in print in 1893 and wrote his doctoral dissertation on the subject at the University of Jena in 1896. His book The Historical Child (1920) surveys the treatment and education of children across many civilizations.
