Morrison Heady (1829–1915) was an American writer and poet from Kentucky who became blind and partly deaf after childhood accidents. Despite these disabilities he educated himself, devised an alphabet glove for communicating by touch, and wrote poetry and books for young readers. Under the pen name Uncle Juvinell he published The Farmer Boy, and How He Became Commander-in-Chief, a life of George Washington for children edited by William M. Thayer, and other works, and he was admired in his time as an example of perseverance.
