Montague Summers (1880–1948) was an English author and clergyman, the son of a Bristol banker. He was ordained a deacon in the Church of England, converted to Roman Catholicism in 1909 and thereafter styled himself a priest, though no record of his ordination has been found. A schoolmaster for many years, he devoted himself to two subjects: the Restoration theater, editing Aphra Behn, Congreve, Wycherley, Dryden and Otway, and the occult, on which he wrote The History of Witchcraft and Demonology, The Vampire: His Kith and Kin, The Werewolf and the first English translation of the Malleus Maleficarum, all from the standpoint of a believer.
