Mary Schell Hoke Bacon

Mary Schell Hoke Bacon (1870–1934) was an American writer who published under the pen name Dolores Bacon. She wrote novels and stories for magazines, but is remembered for the volumes she contributed to the Every Child Should Know series issued by Doubleday, Page and Company: Operas Every Child Should Know, Pictures Every Child Should Know and Songs Every Child Should Know, which retold plots and explained paintings and songs for young readers in a brisk, opinionated manner. She also wrote on the Bible and on Hawaii for the same publishers.
