Margaret Pedler was an English romance novelist from Devon who trained as a musician at the Royal Academy of Music and composed songs before she began publishing fiction. The Splendid Folly in 1918 was the first of some twenty novels, including The Hermit of Far End, The Moon Out of Reach, The Lamp of Fate and The Vision of Desire, that sold widely in Britain and the United States through the 1920s and 1930s. Her books follow a settled pattern of misunderstanding, a shadow from the past and a battle of wills resolved in happiness, and several open with verses of her own set to music. She died in 1948.
