Lucy Ellen Guernsey (1826–1899) was an American writer from Rochester, New York, who produced several dozen books for young readers over forty years, most of them for the American Sunday-School Union and other religious publishers. Irish Amy, Lady Betty's Governess, Loveday's History and Winifred were among the best known, and Claribel belongs to her Round Spring Stories. She wrote both contemporary tales of school and village life and historical fiction set in Reformation England and seventeenth-century France, always with an Episcopalian moral in view. She never married, lived with her sister in Rochester, and was active in church and charitable work there.
