Louise Manly

Louise Manly was an American teacher and anthologist from the South. She taught literature at girls' schools in the Southern states in the last decades of the nineteenth century and compiled Southern Literature from 1579 to 1895 (1895), a school reader with biographical sketches, critical notes and extracts from writers of the Southern states arranged in four historical periods, intended to acquaint Southern children with their region's history through its authors. It was adopted in many Southern schools and reprinted for years.
