Lilli Lehmann (1848–1929) was a German soprano, one of the great singers of the late nineteenth century. Trained by her mother, she made her debut in Prague and sang at the Berlin Court Opera from 1870, taking part in the first Bayreuth festival of 1876. She broke her Berlin contract to sing at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where between 1885 and 1899 she was the leading Isolde, Brünnhilde and Norma, and she was for years the mainstay of the Salzburg Mozart festivals. Her treatise Meine Gesangskunst, translated as How to Sing, records the method she taught to many pupils.
