Lewis Spence (1874–1955) was a Scottish journalist, poet and scholar of mythology and the occult. After working as a newspaper editor in Edinburgh and London, he devoted himself to writing, producing many books on the myths of Mexico and Peru, of the North American peoples, of Egypt, Babylonia and the Celts, as well as an Encyclopaedia of Occultism. He is also known for his books on the legend of Atlantis, and he was active in the Scottish nationalist movement and wrote poetry in Scots. His popular works long served as introductions to world mythology.
