Leroy Scott

Leroy Scott (1875–1929) was an American novelist and journalist, born in Fairmount, Indiana, and educated at Indiana University. After working on newspapers in Chicago and New York he spent time as a settlement worker on the Lower East Side, and his early fiction, beginning with The Walking Delegate (1905), dealt with labor unions, tenement life and political corruption from a reformer's point of view. He later turned to crime and romance set in the New York underworld, including Counsel for the Defense, Partners of the Night and Children of the Whirlwind (1921), several of which were filmed. He was active in socialist and progressive causes.
