Kirk Munroe

Kirk Munroe (1850–1930) was an American writer of adventure stories for young readers. Born in Wisconsin, he worked as a surveyor and journalist in the West and joined the New York Sun before becoming the first editor of Harper's Young People. He wrote dozens of books set in places he knew firsthand, from Alaska and Arizona to the Florida Everglades, where he settled at Coconut Grove and was active in local life and in early conservation. His novels, among them The Copper Princess and the Mates series, combine brisk action with detailed and accurate settings.
