Kate Norgate (1853–1935) was an English historian of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The daughter of a London bookseller, she had no university education and no academic post, but under the encouragement of John Richard Green and his wife Alice she taught herself to work from the chronicles and charters, and her England under the Angevin Kings, published in 1887, was at once recognized as a major piece of scholarship. John Lackland, Richard the Lion Heart and The Minority of Henry the Third followed. She was among the first women to be taken seriously as a medievalist.
