John T. Morse Jr. (1840–1937) was an American lawyer, historian and biographer from Boston. After practicing law and writing on legal subjects, he became editor of Houghton Mifflin's American Statesmen series, for which he wrote the volumes on John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln. He also wrote the life and letters of his kinsman Oliver Wendell Holmes and was for many years active in the Massachusetts Historical Society. His biographies are readable, independent in judgment and centered on public careers.
