Joseph Pohle (1852–1922) was a German Catholic theologian. Born near Siegburg in the Rhineland, he studied in Rome and was ordained in 1878; barred from teaching in Prussia during the Kulturkampf, he taught in Switzerland and England before joining the founding faculty of the Catholic University of America in Washington in 1889. He returned to Germany in 1894 to chairs at Münster and Breslau. His Lehrbuch der Dogmatik (1902–05), a three-volume textbook of dogmatic theology, was adapted into English in twelve volumes by Arthur Preuss, including Grace, Actual and Habitual, and served seminaries in the English-speaking world for half a century.
