John Stuart Thomson

John Stuart Thomson was an American writer and businessman active in the first decades of the twentieth century who spent several years in the Far East. He published a volume of verse, Estabelle and Other Verse, in the 1890s, and then two large books on China for American readers: The Chinese in 1909, a survey of the country's people, customs and institutions, and China Revolutionized in 1913, which described the fall of the Manchu dynasty and the new republic under Yuan Shih-kai with chapters on commerce, railways, politics, education and daily life. Few other details of his life are recorded.
