John Cordy Jeaffreson

John Cordy Jeaffreson (1831–1901) was an English writer and barrister, born at Framlingham in Suffolk and educated at Oxford. After some years as a schoolteacher he turned to literature, writing novels and a long series of anecdotal histories of the professions and of social life, including A Book About Doctors, A Book About Lawyers, A Book About the Clergy and A Book About the Table. He also wrote biographies of Byron and Shelley that caused controversy, and later worked as an inspector of manuscripts for the Historical Manuscripts Commission.
