Jesse Lyman Hurlbut

Jesse Lyman Hurlbut (1843–1930) was an American Methodist minister and educator, a leading figure in the Sunday school movement and the Chautauqua Institution. After serving as a pastor in New Jersey, he worked for the Methodist Sunday School Union and helped develop the Chautauqua courses of study for adults. He wrote many books for teachers and families, among them a Bible atlas, a manual of biblical geography and history, and the popular Hurlbut's Story of the Bible, which retold the Scriptures for young readers and remained in print for decades.
