Jennie Chappell

Jennie Chappell was an English author of children's books and religious fiction, active from the 1880s into the early twentieth century, about whose life little has been recorded. Her stories, published by firms such as Blackie and Partridge, were often given as Sunday-school prizes; titles include The Youngest Princess, Berne's Bargain, Little Radiance and The Man of the Family. She also wrote short biographies of notable Christian women, collected as Women Who Have Worked and Won. Her books combine domestic incident, gentle humor and a clear moral lesson, and they offer a glimpse of the reading given to Victorian and Edwardian children.
