James Croston

James Croston was a nineteenth-century English antiquary from Manchester and a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He wrote extensively on the history, families, houses and legends of Lancashire and Cheshire, in books such as On Foot through the Peak, Nooks and Corners of Lancashire and Cheshire, Old Manchester and Its Worthies, A History of Samlesbury and Historic Sites of Lancashire and Cheshire (1883), and he prepared a revised edition of Edward Baines's history of Lancashire.
