John William Henry Eyre was an English bacteriologist. He directed the bacteriological department of Guy's Hospital in London and lectured on bacteriology in its medical and dental schools, having earlier taught at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and served as Hunterian Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons. His Elements of Bacteriological Technique, first published in 1902 and rewritten for a second edition in 1913, was a standard laboratory manual for students and practitioners in Britain and America, setting out the methods of sterilization, staining, culture and identification used in the early years of medical bacteriology.
