J. Ellis Barker (1870–1948) was a German-born British writer on politics, economics and later health. Born Julius Otto Eltzbacher in Cologne, he settled in Britain, became a naturalized citizen and changed his name in the early 1900s. He wrote widely read books on Germany, Britain's economic problems and the threat of war, and was a vigorous critic of socialism and free trade, as in British Socialism. In later life he turned to medical journalism, writing popular books on cancer, constipation and diet and editing a health magazine.
