Joseph Berg Esenwein (1867–1946) was an American editor, lecturer and author of handbooks on writing. Born in Philadelphia, he taught and preached before becoming editor of Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1905 and later of The Writer's Monthly, and he directed the Home Correspondence School in Springfield, Massachusetts, which taught composition by mail. His manuals, including Writing the Short-Story, Writing the Photoplay and Children's Stories and How to Tell Them, were widely used by aspiring authors. The Art of Public Speaking, written in 1915 with the young Dale Carnegie, outlasted them all and is still read a century later.
