Hiram Martin Chittenden (1858–1917) was an American army engineer and historian. A graduate of West Point, he served in the Corps of Engineers and spent two periods in charge of road building in Yellowstone National Park, where he designed much of the Grand Loop road; his history of the park appeared in 1895. He later directed engineering works at Seattle, where the locks of the Lake Washington Ship Canal bear his name. As a historian he wrote The American Fur Trade of the Far West (1902), still a basic work, and a history of steamboat navigation on the Missouri River.
