Herbert Thurston (1856–1939) was an English Jesuit priest and historian. Born in London and educated at Stonyhurst, he joined the Society of Jesus and spent most of his working life in London writing on the history of Catholic worship and devotion. He contributed many articles to the Catholic Encyclopedia and the journal The Month, and wrote books such as Lent and Holy Week and The Stations of the Cross, applying careful historical criticism to popular devotions and legends. He also investigated spiritualism and the physical phenomena reported in the lives of mystics, studies collected after his death in The Physical Phenomena of Mysticism.
