Henry Theophilus Finck (1854–1926) was an American music critic and writer. Born in Bethel, Missouri, and raised in Oregon, he studied at Harvard and then in Germany, and in 1881 joined the New York Evening Post, where he served as music critic for more than four decades. A passionate champion of Wagner, Grieg and Liszt, he wrote biographies and studies of composers and singers, but his interests ranged widely: Romantic Love and Personal Beauty argued that romantic love was a modern development, and he also wrote on travel, gardening and the pleasures of good food.
