Harold MacGrath

Harold MacGrath (1871–1932) was an American novelist and screenwriter from Syracuse, New York. A newspaper reporter in his twenties, he found success with his first novel, Arms and the Woman, in 1899, and followed it with a stream of best-selling romances and adventure stories, among them The Puppet Crown, The Man on the Box, The Carpet from Bagdad and The Place of Honeymoons. He was one of the first established novelists to write directly for the movies, and his serial The Adventures of Kathlyn, filmed in 1913, was among the earliest cliffhanger serials. More than two dozen films were made from his work.
