H. Stanley Redgrove was an English chemist and writer of the early twentieth century who took a serious interest in the history of alchemy and mysticism. Trained in chemistry at the University of London, he lectured at the Polytechnic in Regent Street and wrote on thermochemistry, before publishing Alchemy: Ancient and Modern, Matter, Spirit and the Cosmos, a study of Roger Bacon and books on the occult philosophers of the past. He argued that alchemy was a serious attempt to understand nature. In later life he worked as a consulting chemist on perfumes and cosmetics.
