H. A. Guerber

Hélène Adeline Guerber (1859–1929) was an American writer and teacher who made a career of retelling the myths and legends of Europe for students and general readers. Her Myths of Greece and Rome (1893) was followed by Myths of Northern Lands, Legends of the Rhine, Legends of the Middle Ages, The Story of the Greeks, The Story of the Romans and other histories for schools, and by Myths of the Norsemen: From the Eddas and Sagas (1908), which arranged Scandinavian mythology by god and theme and quoted the poems in translation. Her books were reprinted for decades and introduced many readers to the subject.
