Gilbert Frankau (1884–1952) was an English novelist and poet, the son of the novelist Julia Frankau, who wrote as Frank Danby. He ran the family cigar business before the First World War, in which he served in the artillery and wrote war poems and the verse novel One of Us. Peter Jackson, Cigar Merchant (1920), a novel of a shell-shocked officer's return, was a bestseller, and he followed it with The Love-Story of Aliette Brunton, Gerald Cranston's Lady, Masterson and World Without End. Prolific, patriotic and politically conservative, he was among the most widely read English novelists of the 1920s.
