George Horace Lorimer (1867–1937) was an American editor and author. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of a famous Baptist preacher, he left Yale to work for the Chicago meatpacker Philip Armour and ran a grocery business before turning to journalism. In 1899 Cyrus Curtis made him editor of the Saturday Evening Post, which he built over thirty-seven years from a failing weekly into the most widely read magazine in the country. His Letters from a Self-Made Merchant to His Son (1902), first printed in the Post, became a bestseller and was followed by Old Gorgon Graham; both drew on his stockyard years.
