George F. Chambers

George Frederick Chambers (1841–1915) was an English barrister and amateur astronomer, a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. Alongside a career in law, in which he wrote on local government and public health legislation, he produced popular books on astronomy, above all A Handbook of Descriptive and Practical Astronomy, which went through several editions, and shorter works for general readers such as The Story of the Solar System, The Story of the Stars and The Story of Eclipses. He did much to spread an interest in astronomy among amateurs.
