George C. Brodrick

George Charles Brodrick (1831–1903) was an English historian, journalist and university administrator. A son of Viscount Midleton, he was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, was called to the bar and wrote leading articles for The Times for many years. A Liberal who later opposed Irish home rule, he stood unsuccessfully for Parliament several times. From 1881 until his death he was warden of Merton College, Oxford. His books include English Land and English Landlords, a history of the University of Oxford and a volume of The Political History of England, published after his death with J. K. Fotheringham.
