Granville Stanley Hall (1844–1924) was an American psychologist and educator. After studying in Germany, he received one of the first American doctorates in psychology at Harvard, founded an early experimental psychology laboratory at Johns Hopkins, and started the American Journal of Psychology. He was the first president of the American Psychological Association and from 1889 the first president of Clark University, where in 1909 he brought Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung to lecture. His massive study Adolescence shaped thinking about youth, though many of its views on race and sex are now rejected.
