Friedrich August Flückiger (1828–1894) was a Swiss pharmacist and pharmacognosist, born in Langenthal in the canton of Bern. After studies in Berlin, Geneva, Heidelberg and Paris he ran a pharmacy in Burgdorf, became cantonal pharmacist in Bern and from 1873 was professor of pharmacognosy at the University of Strasbourg. With the London pharmacist Daniel Hanbury he wrote Pharmacographia, a history of the vegetable drugs of Britain and British India that joined botany, chemistry and historical scholarship as no earlier book had done. His other works include studies of the history of pharmacy and a standard textbook of pharmacognosy.
