Frederic H. Sawyer

Frederic H. Sawyer was a British civil engineer, a member of the Institutions of Civil Engineers and of Naval Architects, who lived and worked in the Philippines for many years in the late nineteenth century. Fluent in Spanish and familiar with Tagalog, he came into contact with officials, priests, landowners and peasants, and in 1900 he published The Inhabitants of the Philippines, a sympathetic account of the islands' peoples, written because he felt no English book did them justice.
