Evan James MacGillivray was an English barrister of the Inner Temple and one of the leading authorities on copyright law of his time. His Treatise upon the Law of Copyright in the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the Crown, and in the United States of America, published in 1902, set out the tangled statutes of the Victorian period before their consolidation in the Copyright Act of 1911, and he followed it with a guide to that Act, a digest of copyright cases, and annual surveys of copyright decisions. His books remained standard references for lawyers and publishers for decades.
