Eugene S. Talbot

Eugene Solomon Talbot (1847–1924) was an American dentist and physician in Chicago, a pioneer of orthodontics and oral surgery. He taught at several Chicago medical and dental schools and wrote influential works on irregularities of the teeth and jaws, which he linked to heredity and to the wider theory of degeneration then widely accepted. His book Degeneracy: Its Causes, Signs and Results, published in the Contemporary Science Series edited by Havelock Ellis, applied these ideas to society at large. His theories are now discredited, but his clinical work advanced dentistry.
