Elisabeth Sanxay Holding

Elisabeth Sanxay Holding (1889–1955) was an American novelist and short-story writer. Born in Brooklyn, she lived for some years in Latin America and Bermuda with her British diplomat husband and began by writing romantic novels. From the late 1920s she turned to psychological suspense, with books such as Dark Power, Miasma, Lady Killer, Net of Cobwebs and The Blank Wall, later filmed twice. Raymond Chandler called her the top suspense writer of her time, and her studies of fear, guilt and family pressure are still admired.
