Eileen Power (1889–1940) was an English economic and medieval historian. Educated at Girton College, Cambridge, and in Paris, she taught at Girton and from 1921 at the London School of Economics, where she became professor in 1931. Medieval English Nunneries (1922) was followed by Medieval People (1924), six portraits of ordinary men and women that became a classic of popular history, by work on the medieval wool trade and on China and India after a year of travel in Asia, and by the founding, with Michael Postan, whom she married in 1937, of the Economic History Review. She died suddenly of a heart attack at fifty-one.
