Edward Albert

Edward Albert was a Scottish schoolmaster who taught English at George Watson's College in Edinburgh and wrote textbooks for students. His History of English Literature, first published in 1923 and subtitled a practical textbook, set authors against their historical background and ended each chapter with exercises; it was revised in later editions by other hands and stayed in use in schools and universities for decades. He also wrote A Practical Course in English. Few details of his life appear in standard reference works.
