Edward Keble Chatterton (1878–1944) was an English writer on ships and naval history. A keen yachtsman from youth, he wrote Sailing Ships (1909), a history of the sailing vessel from ancient Egypt to his own day, followed by many other books on ships, among them The Old East Indiamen and Ships and Ways of Other Days. During the First World War he served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, commanding motor launches, and afterward he wrote widely on the naval war, including Q-Ships and Their Story, about the disguised merchant ships used to trap submarines. He produced dozens of books in a long career.
