Danske Dandridge

Danske Dandridge (1854–1914) was an American poet and historian. Born in Copenhagen, where her father Henry Bedinger was the first American minister to Denmark, and given a Danish name in his honor, she grew up in Shepherdstown in what became West Virginia and lived there for the rest of her life. Her collections Joy and Other Poems and Rose Brake were praised in the 1880s and 1890s; she then turned to history and wrote Historic Shepherdstown, a life of her ancestor George Michael Bedinger and American Prisoners of the Revolution, dedicated to the grandfather who had been a boy prisoner in New York.
