Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830–1894) was an English poet, the youngest child of an exiled Italian scholar and the sister of the painter and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who illustrated her first book. Goblin Market and Other Poems appeared in 1862 and The Prince's Progress in 1866, followed by verse for children in Sing-Song, A Pageant and Other Poems with the sonnet sequence Monna Innominata, and several volumes of devotional prose and verse. A devout Anglican, she twice refused marriage on religious grounds, worked for a decade at a refuge for former prostitutes, and lived quietly in London. Her lyrics are among the most anthologized in English.
