Catherine Owen

Catherine Owen was the name under which an American cookery writer published a series of books in the 1880s for middle-class households. Her novel Ten Dollars Enough told, through the story of a young wife, how to keep house well on a modest weekly budget, and Gentle Breadwinners described women earning money from cooking. Choice Cookery (1889) collected her articles from Harper's Bazar on more elaborate dishes for entertaining. Her writing is practical and detailed. Little is recorded about her life.
